Report on UNFPA Supported to SMN\'s Committees to conduct activities
For most women around the world, childbirth and motherhood are normal and healthy experiences. However, for many mothers and their newborns, it can also mean death and disability resulting from complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. Most of these complications are preventable.
In Nepal maternal mortality and morbidity affects almost every home. It is estimated that 740/100,000 women die due to childbirth related causes, and between 6 to 15 women face morbidity as a consequence of unsafe pregnancy and childbirth. Similarly, it is estimated that 3 to 4 newborn mortality rate prevails in the world. Thus, providing information and extensive coverage of reproductive health services to women was identified as a key issue for Nepali women. Moreover, it was clear that a tremendous amount of collaboration, understanding, patience and passion were required to address the issue of safe motherhood and newborn health in this beautiful but difficult country.
