Review and Planning Workshop for Reproductive Health and Safe Motherhood
In December, the Family Health Division of the Department of Health Services held the annual three-day review and planning workshop for reproductive health and safe motherhood. Participants included key officials from the DoHS and FHD, external development partners and NGOs, and presentations included review of the overall achievements and challenges for the year and of recommendations from the last planning workshop, followed by reports from individual programme areas and development partners. Much of the discussion centred around the findings of the recently completed maternal mortality and morbidity study, which provided information about encouraging progress achieved and new emerging issues to be addressed. After plenary discussion, participants worked in groups to develop recommendations for addressing key issues and challenges over the next year under the four major themes of: adolescent sexual and reproductive health; safe motherhood; neonatal health; and family planning. An important aim for this year’s workshop was feed into the currently ongoing process of planning and development of the next phase of the national health sector programme.
