Case study on strengthening infrastructure development

One of the key components of SSMP is strengthening physical assets management within the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), focusing on facilities for safe motherhood and newborn health but with associated benefits to the whole health sector. The case study “Strengthening Infrastructure Development and Institutionalising Change” demonstrates how a combination of financial and technical assistance has positively influenced planning and decision making related to physical assets management and helped to develop quality systems and institutionalise changes. An electronic database of all health buildings across the country has been developed, complemented by standard prototype building designs and a planned maintenance strategy to improve planning and budgeting for health infrastructures.
